Gemfest Rubyvale is one of Emerald’s signature events, drawing visitors from across the Central Highlands and beyond. The premier Gemfields festival celebrates sapphire fossicking, gem cutting, jewellery making, and the unique culture of Australia’s sapphire capital.

About Gemfest Rubyvale

Gemfest transforms Rubyvale into a celebration of everything gemstone. Expect guided fossicking experiences, gem cutting demonstrations, jewellery-making workshops, geological talks, and market stalls selling rough and cut sapphires. Local artisan jewellers showcase their work. Underground mine tours run throughout the weekend. Food stalls and live entertainment create a festival atmosphere in this small country town.

The festival is the best introduction to the Sapphire Gemfields — condensing what might take days of independent exploration into an accessible weekend program. Whether you’re a serious collector or a curious first-timer, Gemfest offers something genuine.

Getting There

Rubyvale is approximately 45 minutes west of Emerald via the Capricorn Highway and Gemfields Road. The drive is sealed and straightforward. Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane. Many visitors base themselves in Emerald and drive to the festival daily.
