About Sunflower Festival
The sunflower season transforms the Central Highlands from January through March. Vast fields of sunflowers bloom across the plateau, creating one of Queensland’s most dramatic seasonal landscapes. The festival celebrates this with organised photography tours, farm gate experiences, and community events.
Sunflower fields are scattered across the agricultural regions around Emerald — there’s no single massive field, but dozens of smaller fields that create striking roadside scenery. Golden hour photography (sunrise and sunset) produces the most dramatic images.
Organised by community and agricultural groups, this event has become a fixture on the Central Highlands calendar. The event typically attracts 1,000–3,000 visitors during the season visitors.

Getting There
Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.
Emerald Inn — Golden-Hour Starts in Sunflower Season
Sunflower photography is a first-light and last-light business, which means being close enough to the fields to go out twice in a day. We are central at 28–30 Esmond Street, with the Central Highlands plateau fields a short drive out.
A full kitchen matters when you are leaving before dawn and eating at odd hours, and reverse-cycle air conditioning matters because the season runs late January to March. Free undercover parking keeps the car out of the sun between shoots.
