Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.

Emerald Inn — Freezer Space for the Fishing Comp

Comp fishing at Fairbairn produces fish worth taking home, and a bar fridge will not do it. Every apartment here has a full-size fridge and freezer, so the yellowbelly and red claw keep properly until you leave.

The dam is about twenty minutes from 28–30 Esmond Street, and we are near the supermarkets for bait, ice and supplies before a pre-dawn start. Boat trailers use the street parking around the property; cars go undercover for free. Full kitchen, of course, if you would rather cook the catch than freeze it.

Emerald Inn: 28–30 Esmond Street, Emerald QLD 4720. Check availability or call (07) 4980 0600. Compare the three apartment types.

More of the Lake, and Beyond It

If the comp is your first time at Maraboon, there is a good deal more to it than the weigh-in:
