Why Attend
For visitors, community events offer the most authentic insight into how Emerald actually works as a town. Beyond the attractions and accommodation, it’s these gatherings — whether sporting, cultural, or community — that reveal the character of the Central Highlands. If your visit coincides with an event, attending is one of the best ways to connect with the region.
Getting There
Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.
Emerald Inn — School Holiday Stays with Room to Spread Out
A fortnight of holiday programs works far better from an apartment than a motel room. Our Two Bedroom apartments are 80 square metres with a separate living and dining area and a private balcony, sleeping up to six — space for the children to be noisy somewhere other than where the adults are sitting.
Cots and rollaway beds are available at no charge, and there is a BBQ and garden area on site with a 65-inch outdoor television. Full kitchen and washer-dryer in every apartment, which over two weeks of holidays is the whole difference. Find us at 28–30 Esmond Street, a few minutes’ walk from the shops and the Botanic Gardens.
Emerald Inn: 28–30 Esmond Street, Emerald QLD 4720. Check availability or call (07) 4980 0600. Compare the three apartment types.
Day Trips for the Holidays
Programs fill the mornings; a fortnight of holidays needs rather more than that:
- Fossicking with kids — a parents’ guide to the Gemfields with children in tow
- Fairbairn Dam & Lake Maraboon — fishing, kayaking and sunset picnics, 20 minutes away
- Emerald Botanic Gardens — native gardens and river paths a short stroll from the apartments
- Springsure & Virgin Rock — the drive south past Virgin Rock — good in the late afternoon light
