Getting There
Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.
Emerald Inn — A Bed for Leaders and Parent Helpers
The young people are usually under canvas; the leaders, parent helpers and visiting district staff are usually looking for a bed, a shower and a laundry. We have all three at 28–30 Esmond Street, walking distance from the CBD.
A washer-dryer in every apartment is the useful one after a weekend of camp gear, and the full kitchen means catering for yourself for once. Free undercover parking; larger vehicles and trailers use the street around the property.

For the Adults’ Downtime
While the young people are occupied, the leaders and parent helpers occasionally get an hour:
- Emerald Botanic Gardens — an easy morning walk on the Nogoa River, five minutes from us
- Fairbairn Dam & Lake Maraboon — barramundi, yellowbelly and red claw, a short drive out
- Blackdown Tableland — waterfalls, lookouts and Ghungalu cultural sites up on the tableland
- Where the locals go — places worth knowing that are not on the tourist list
