Why Attend
For visitors, community events offer the most authentic insight into how Emerald actually works as a town. Beyond the attractions and accommodation, it’s these gatherings — whether sporting, cultural, or community — that reveal the character of the Central Highlands. If your visit coincides with an event, attending is one of the best ways to connect with the region.
Getting There
Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.
Emerald Inn — Pony Club Weekends Without the Drive Home
Pony club days run long for the riders and longer for the parents, and the drive back to a property afterwards is the worst part of it. Staying in town at 28–30 Esmond Street removes it.
Floats use the street parking around the property; cars go in the free undercover car park. Inside, the washer-dryer handles the jodhpurs, the rain shower handles the rest, and the full kitchen means dinner does not depend on what is still open in town.
Book Emerald Inn: 28–30 Esmond Street, Emerald QLD 4720. Check availability or call (07) 4980 0600. Compare the three apartment types.
Around the Rally Days
Pony club families are usually here for a day and staying for two. Where the second one goes:
- The Central Highlands cattle industry — why the beef here is worth eating locally
- Springsure & Virgin Rock — a historic town under a striking rock face, 45 minutes south
- Fossicking with kids — a parents’ guide to the Gemfields with children in tow
- Fairbairn Dam & Lake Maraboon — the dam wall walk and the best sunsets in the district
