The Christmas in Emerald celebration brings the town together with carnival rides, market stalls, food vendors, live entertainment, and the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights. Children enjoy rides and visits with Santa. Adults browse craft and food markets. The evening culminates in the lights switch-on and community celebration.

The event typically attracts 1,000–2,000 visitors.

Getting There

Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.

Emerald Inn — Cool Rooms for Carnival Night

The Christmas carnival is an evening event in the middle of a Central Queensland December, which means the kids will be hot, sticky and overtired by the end of it. Being a short walk from the CBD at 28–30 Esmond Street means you are back and in the air conditioning within minutes.

Cots and rollaway beds are available at no charge, and Two Bedroom apartments give the adults a living room once the children are down. Full kitchen for the late supper that inevitably gets requested.

Stay at Emerald Inn: 28–30 Esmond Street, Emerald QLD 4720. Check availability or call (07) 4980 0600. Compare the three apartment types.
