Why Attend
For visitors, community events offer the most authentic insight into how Emerald actually works as a town. Beyond the attractions and accommodation, it’s these gatherings — whether sporting, cultural, or community — that reveal the character of the Central Highlands. If your visit coincides with an event, attending is one of the best ways to connect with the region.
Getting There
Emerald is accessible via the Capricorn Highway from both Brisbane (9 hours) and Rockhampton (3 hours). Emerald Airport has daily flights from Brisbane via QantasLink and Alliance Airlines.
Emerald Inn — A Proper Kitchen for CWA Conference Week
It is a fair bet that a CWA delegate would rather have an oven than a room-service menu. Every apartment here has a full kitchen — full-size fridge and freezer, oven, stovetop and proper cookware — so baking for a stall or putting together a shared morning tea is entirely doable.
We are at 28–30 Esmond Street, walking distance from the CBD, with free undercover parking for anyone who has driven in from a property. Reception is open 7am to 7pm daily if you need a hand with anything.
Where to find us: 28–30 Esmond Street, Emerald QLD 4720. Check availability or call (07) 4980 0600. Compare the three apartment types.
Seeing the District While You Are Here
Delegates travelling in from across the state rarely get out this way often. A few things worth building in:
- Emerald Botanic Gardens — the quietest half hour in Emerald, before the day warms up
- The Central Highlands cattle industry — the industry behind most of the district
- Sapphire Gemfields — dig for your own stones on the fields west of town
- Grey nomad guide to Emerald — written for travellers taking their time
